Abstract :
Tests have been conducted on Hamamatsu R2021 planar mesh dynode photomultiplier tubes in 12- and 15-stage versions with 25- and 40-mm envelope diameters. Dark current, overall gain and dynamic range of the tubes have been determined, and the behavior of the tubes magnetic fields up to 0.05 T has been studied. It is shown that with suitable modifications to the structure of calorimeter units of the ZEUS detector, these tubes will perform adequately in that application.<>
