Abstract :
To limit distortion in digital cable systems due to low-frequency cuts, it has been usual either to use quantised feedback or use a code with a finite digital-sum variation. It is shown that these restrictions are unnecessarily stringent. Systems typically use 3-level codes, and some codes requiring less bandwidih than the 4B3T type are analysed.
