Abstract :
Complexes of F centers and impurities (Pb/sup ++/, Cu/sup +/) in KMgF/sub 3/ are tunable lasing media covering the ranges 855-965 nm and 945-1065 nm, respectively. Both systems work at liquid nitrogen temperature; both show a troublesome fading. From optical experiments, the configurational structure of the centers is deduced and from this, solutions for the stability problem are derived.<>
