Abstract :
A one-semester senior undergraduate/graduate course on multimicrocomputer systems is described. Description of laboratory experiments and a design project in which the students build a simple multiple-microcomputer system from the chip level as part of the course is also presented. The lecture classes discuss various design techniques, introduction to the hardware, software, concurrent programming, and parallel algorithms. The course instructors supervise the design, construction, and debugging of hardware and software for the system. Students write programs to execute concurrently on the multimicroprocessors. Performance measurements are made for simple problems like sorting random numbers and coloring of vertices of a map. A detailed description of the course and projects, laboratory support equipment required, and extra work to be performed outside the lecture hours by the faculty are also presented
