Abstract :
Using an interferometric detection technique, highly accurate and fully automated polarisation mode dispersion (PMD) measuring equipment with 1.7 fs (0.0017 ps) accuracy has been developed. PMD measurements of active EDFA, fibre optic components, and 100 km long optical fibres are presented. A comparison of the interferometric method with the Jones matrix method and the fixed analyser method is also described.
