Abstract :
An intermediate precursor containing 0.5Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/+2BaCuO/sub 2.5/+CuO+0.325 Ag is synthesized. By attrition milling of metals and barium nitrate and subsequent controlled heat treatment the precursor was obtained. To prepare orthorhombic YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-x/-0.325 Ag superconductor, the silver tubes packed with the precursor was heat treated for 40 min at 950 degrees C in air and subsequently either quenched or cooled slowly in air at 100 degrees C/h. If the sample was heat treated for 30 min or less at 950 degrees C in air and quenched, tetragonal YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub z/ formed.<>
