Abstract :
Electromagnetic detection of nonmetallic objects buried near the earth´s surface is hampered by the strong signal returned from the surface. Pointing a directive antenna forward is shown experimentally to greatly reduce the surface return, thus improving the ability of the system to detect buried targets.
