Abstract :
Numerical results show that in several types of multimode fibre (step index, Selfoc, ring shaped) a spatial ripple is present in the superposition of equally excited guided mode power densities. An analytical discussion of field correlation properties explains why the ripple spatial frequency is proportional to V, as has been observed experimentally.
