Abstract :
The phase of crosspolarised signals propagated in an ice-crystal medium is shown to tend to ±¿/2 for linear and circular polarisation. This is verified at 30, 14 and 6 GHz by computation for real ice crystals. The conditions for phase jumps of 180° to occur in the crosspolai phase are derived in terms of the orientation of the ice crystals.
