Abstract :
The use of a loose-tube packaging around an optical fibre offers a high degree of mechanical isolation but can cause severe buckling of the fibre if differential contraction of the packaging occurs. The formation of this buckled state is investigated and loss measurements made on buckled lengths of fibre.
