Abstract :
A brief overview is given of progress relating to Nb-Ti ultrafine filamentary wires with greatly reduced 50-60-Hz losses. The prospective industrial applications in large superconducting 50-60-Hz equipment and the characteristics of different wires used in 50-60-Hz applications are noted. The calculated superconducting losses for a new Nb-Ti composite (AC 87/3A) where the proximity effect is strongly reduced and where a decrease of losses due to reversible fluxoid motion appears are also reported.
