Abstract :
A decoder that is ready to meet the challenge of higher levels of teletext transmission proposed for Europe is described. Its display capabilities are better than those of most OSD (on-screen display) devices. It overcomes the problems associated with using existing teletext decoders for OSDs. A number of new features are incorporated to make it particularly attractive for wide-screen TVs. The device breaks away from the conventional 40 characters per row format by offering up to 63 characters per row. Examples of how the extra character space might be used are shown
