Abstract :
The author presents: (1) reasons why a predictable level of performance can enhance the productivity of system users; and (2) an analysis of the factors that can impact performance. He also explains why a system can look very good under certain circumstances and yet fail to live up to expectations upon installation in a real-world environment.
