Abstract :
Guidelines have been provided for development of the fiber optic standard by the CEBus (consumer electronics bus), Fiber Optic Working Group. A system is presented which meets those guidelines yet represents a somewhat different approach than was envisioned by the Working Group. It is shown that the framework of a fiber-optic home network can be specified even though there is a certain amount of uncertainty in the future level of fiber technology and the future requirements of the household information network. Using this framework, the CEBus can expand from a home automation standard to a standard for true home integration. The proposed network provides a smooth integration between proposed home automation standards and existing fiber networks in the telecommunications industry. Simulations are used to assess the performance of the proposed network
