Abstract
A new approach for predicting and coding depth information in 3D-TV (three-dimensional television) applications is presented. Properties of the depth information, which complements monoscopic video and enables 3D experience, are used in the proposed 3D motion prediction. The new approach leads to more efficient motion compensation and finally to higher compression. Built on the top of the conventional approaches for video coding, the proposed technique is suitable for integration in upcoming 3D-TV products.
