Abstract :
A novel optical method for frequency upconversion in ultra-wideband (UWB) system application is proposed and demonstrated. A UWB monocycle pulse can be generated by cross-polarsation modulation combined with carrier-suppressed modulation, and after an O/E detector, it can be converted to 32 GHz band. After electrical downconversion, the UWB monocycle pulse has a fractional bandwidth of 144 and fits UWB applications.
