Abstract :
The principle and operation is reported of a novel coupler for optical LiNbO3 : Ti waveguides. As the coupling mechanism, the radiation of the energy of the semileaky TE-like mode into the substrate due to the crystal anisotropy is used. Efficient polarisation-dependent coupling can be obtained while retaining the planar configuration and without having to use any other materials or structures except for the LiNbO3 waveguide itself.
