Abstract :
Many authors have indicated that noncoherent detection has inferior detection sensitivity compared to coherent detection. As this sensitivity disadvantage is reduced by increasing the responsivity of the noncoherent detector of using wider bandwidths, the square law dynamic range is reduced. This inherent tradeoff in noncoherent detection is described using microwave detectors as an example.
