Abstract :
A logic gate with facilities for changing the mode of operation on application of a control signal is presented as a versatile circuit element. Addition is shown to be an example where the incoming data can be used to derive the necessary control signals to operate such a gate. Mode-controlled gates are then used to achieve serial multiplication, again using data derived control signals. Designs are seen to be fast and hardware efficient.
