Abstract :
A compact multiplexing scheme for high-capacity gigabit-per-second time-division multiple-access (TDMA) networks is described. The optical data pulses from an array of surface-emitting lasers are individually modulated, time compressed, relatively time delayed, and bit interleaved to form a single high-speed data stream, all in one simple process requiring a minimum of hardware.<>
