Near-field intensity and modal power distribution in multimode graded-index fibres

A relation between the modal power distribution and the near-field intensity is derived. Whereas the near-field intensity (averaged over all possible speckle patterns) is uniquely determined by the modal power distribution, it is impossible to derive a unique modal power distribution from a given near-field intensity. For special additional assumptions follow relations already known from literature.
