Abstract
The parallel combination of a magnetoresistor and the coil, which controls it, is shown to be an active circuit. This depends upon a square law for the resistance as a function of the coil current, but saturation destroys the square law. A useful extension of the operating range is made possible by the insertion of a diode-function generator to modify the coil current.
