Abstract :
Optical fibers offer many new opportunities to system planners interested in broad-band video or other services. This paper examines the existing and foreseen optical component technology and discusses how it might be exploited. The wide-band systems already announced are reviewed and the possible development of a future wide-band integrated network from the existing community antenna television system (CATV) and telecommunications networks is discussed.
