Abstract
The IEEE 802.11e standard allows an admission control (AC) mechanism based on medium time criteria, calculated from the minimum physical layer (PHY) rate, for contention-based wireless access. A pessimistic minimum PHY rate causes channel under-utilisation. Therefore, proposed is a new AC based on adaptive PHY rate that enhances user capacity with quality of service (QoS) provision.
