Abstract :
The capture and the accumulation cross sections of the parallel stream type magnetic filter are calculated as a function of time. It is shown that the capture cross section increases with time, but the net capture cross section, namely the capture cross section subtracted by the accumulation cross section, decreases with time. By the use of these two cross sections, the time dependence of the filter recovery is calculated for regular square arrangement of the ferromagnetic wires by assuming that the slurry velocity is constant. The time dependence of the recovery is estimated also for the case of constant feed rate. From these results, the duration of the work cycle of the filter may be determined
