Abstract
Experimental results are presented for the buildup process of paramagnetic particles in single wire HGMS for the system in which the field is in parallel with the flow and perpendicular to the wire. The range of validity of a previously developed theoretical model for the initial rate of particle buildup is established and reasons for the failure of the model at high flow velocities are discussed. Data are also presented correlating anemometer measurements of deposits with photographic observations. A limited range of velocities and buildup over which anemometer methods may be useful is found, with decreasing accuracy at increasing flow velocities leading to a failure of this experimental method at the highest velocities (35 cm/s), and also at large buildup volumes.
