Abstract
Microwave properties of magnetically unbiased ferrites were investigated. Applying Landau-Lifshitz equation to non-conductive ferrite medium with no dc magnetic bias, an equation of new tensor permeability of the unbiased ferrite was obtained. Based on this tensor permeability and using the non-conductive Maxwells Equation, an equation of propagation constant of a rectangular waveguide of TE10 mode was derived. To verify these theoretical equations experimentally, a ferrite filled rectangular waveguide was constructed using a X-band waveguide and a piece of ferrite Ba00.3 (Ti Co O3 ) 5.7 Fe2 O3 This was tested at 9.5 GHz. Both the attenuation and the waveguide wavelength were measured to correlate with the theoretical propagation constant and the tensor permeability. The test results indicated that the theorectical permeability tensor is functional.
