Abstract
A design of a compact X-band tuned amplifier based on a thin field-emitter array (TFFEC) is presented. An output power above 10 W with more than 10 dB of gain at 50-MHz bandwidth is expected. The amplifier also serves as a vehicle for gaining practical experience in the application of the TFFEC in an RF environment. It is concluded that the TFFEC has properties suggesting that a whole new generation of microwave amplifiers of high frequency, moderate power, and possibly low cost can be developed.<>
