Abstract
Mössbauer spectroscopy was used to investigate the local structural disorder and crystallization in (Fe1-x Nix )80 Py B20-y compositional series with y = 0 and 14. Whereas the average hyperfine field decreases as x increases as a result of lowering the average Fe-moment, the relatively narrow spectral line width does not change too much. The isomer shift compared with metallic Fe is strong ly influenced by the metalloid partners P and B and less by the alloying with Ni. During the crystallization of Fe80 B20 alpha-iron and a metastable Fe3 B phase could be detected up to 700°C but at 900°C besides alpha-iron only the thermodynamically stable Fe2 B phase occurred. Fe40 Ni40 B20 is completely crystallized at 700°C in a phase of (Fe, Ni)3 B-type.
