  • Abstract
Integrated recording head concepts and studies have been presented with experimental results. Integrated heads offer many possibilities and improvements due to their intrinsic flat nature. We have tried to benefit from this idea, and we have studied a new multitrack integrated head design which we will describe in the paper. The main characteristics of this integrated head design can be summarized as follows: a/- assembly with glass bonding of two substrate with integrated heads deposited on each substrate and interlaced. b/- two servo compensated heads deposited on side of pad. c/- very flat pad permitting perpendicular electrical contact. d/- beam lead connections with flexible connector which assume the gimbal function. e/- track positioning, track width and flying surface profile made by ion beam. We will discuss advantages and limitations of such design concepts that we consider to be the result of advanced technologies.
