Abstract
A calculation method of determining the maximum permissible magnetic field values for superconducting toroidal magnet systems in tokamak reactors is described. Simple scalings for the maximum magnetic field values Bmax are found. The results of mechanical stress calculations by the finite element method are introduced into the formulas for calculating Bmax , yielding considerable changes compared to the Bmax values calculated without the "finite element correction".
