Sensitivity of single mode buried heterostructure lasers to reflected power at 274 Mbit/s

The effect of optical feedback is measured for a regenerator operating at 1.3 ¿m and 274 Mbit/s and having a sensitivity of ¿37 dBm. When 1% (excluding reflection at the laser facet) of the launched beam is coupled back into the laser, then approximately a 0.7 dB increase in received power will be required to maintain a 10¿9 bit error rate.
