  • Abstract
Effects of the simultaneous addition of gallium to the core and magnesium to the matrix on superconducting properties and structures of the composite-processed V3Ga have been studied. Single core composites with V-(0-6) at.%Ga alloy core and Cu-19at.%Ga-(0-0.8)at.%Mg alloy matrix were fabricated into tapes and heat treated. The simultaneous addition of gallium and magnesium significantly increases the Jcof V3Ga. Furthermore, the addition of gallium and that of magnesium increase Hc2(4.2K) by 1-2 T. The Jcof over 1 × 105A/cm2is achieved at 20 T even for thick V3Ga layers of 5-10 μm. The present result demonstrates the possibility of making a 20 T superconducting magnet with the stable multifilamentary type V3Ga conductor.
