Abstract :
Cylindrically shaped shieldings were made with NbTi multifilamentary composite wires wound on a bakelite bobbin and impregnated with Wood´s metal. It was confirmed that Wood´s metal and an upper critical field of about 1 T allow a superconducting junction between the wires. Static fields up to 1 T were applied to the shieldings and the field penetration was examined. A field of 0.5 T could be reduced to less than 10-3 T for about 30 min. The magnetic stability against a pulsed field was also examined and high performance confirmed.
