            Abstract : 
High-spectral-purity millimetre-wave signals were optically generated by heterodyning the outputs from two phase-locked external-cavity semiconductor lasers. Beat signals were detected by a conventional pin photodiode used as a W-band photoreceiver. A 110-GHz millimetre-wave signal was successfully generated with rms phase fluctuation of 57 mrad.
