Abstract
Black-box models (BBMs) for erbium-doped amplification have been demonstrated to be a powerful tool. A new extended BBM including variations of the erbium-doped fiber length is presented for fiber length optimization in amplified systems. The comparisons with experimental results show a very high accuracy, with maximum discrepancies of about 0.5 dB.
