Abstract :
Calculations of particle trajectories and capture radii in the single-wire approximation of HGMS are presented. It is found that the capture radius R
cadepends linearly on

for ratios of magnetic to fluid velocities in the range from 0.1 to 400. Processes responsible for capture on either side of the wire are investigated and a qualitative comparison with experiment is made.
