Abstract :
Low order demagnetization eigengunctions and eigenvalues for a one-dimensional continuum model of transverse magnetization in long, thin stripes are presented. Analysis of the eigenfunctions and their eigenvalues shows that if the product of the susceptibility and the stripe thickness-to-width ratio is large compared to unity the magnetization is sensitive to demagnetization effects and insensitive to the susceptibility, and that for ordinary applied fields if the product is small the reverse is true. A lowpass approximation for calculating the magnetoresistive signal leads to an observation made by Anderson, Bajorek, and Thompson [1].
