Abstract
Electric utilities all over the world are being challenged to provide safe and dependable electric energy. Sharing data and experiences regarding generating unit performance helps utilities meet that challenge, but common terminology and performance assessment techniques are needed for exchanges to happen. Two international organizations, the IEEE and UNIPEDE, have each developed reference standards for utilities to use for this purpose. Both offer similar terms and definitions. These reference standards are reviewed, and similarities and differences between the reference standards are identified
