Abstract :
The long wavelength response of magnetic heads with rectangular cross section, finite head (track) width, and optional side shields has been numerically computed. The calculations show how the long wavelength oscillations associated with the head length increase with decreasing head width. These oscillations also increase in the presence of side shields normally introduced between heads in a multitrack assembly to reduce crosstalk.
