Abstract
A DC linear motor (DCLM) which is now under development by authors, employs a simple mechanism including a conventional DC excited and iron cored electromagnet on-board, which is characterized in its capability to obtain both lift and thrust simultaneously. In order to realize a maglev system provided with a linear motor, it seems to be very important matter to reduce vehicle weight of on-board devices which affects reduction of installation cost and increase of energy efficiency. We have developed a boil-off cooling system to be used for on-board electromagnet in DCLM system and suceeded in remarkable weight reduction.
