Abstract
This paper describes a case study using power system stabilizers to enhance the damping of the Western US power system. The study is based on a particular model of the system. Local and inter-area modes are first identified for two load flow cases and then stabilization and damping improvement of these modes are obtained. Approaches for further damping improvement of a 0.7 Hz inter-area mode are recommended
