Abstract
Since magnetic components represent one of the major ingredients constituting a power processing system, it is important to optimize the magnetic design when a given design quantity is deemed particularly desirable, for example, the total weight, the size, or the efficiency. This paper presents a methodology for the inductor and transformer designs to meet all performance requirements and concurrently minimize the total weight. The method of calculus-of-variation is applied to four EI core and pot core inductor and transformer designs to obtain the optimum design solution in a closed form.
