Abstract :
A multilayer thin-film head has been developed for use in disk drives. The head is built up by using sputter deposition and photolithographic techniques. Read and write experiments have been performed. Using oxide media and flying heights of not less than 0.4μ, longitudinal densities of 470 flux changes per mm (12 000 fci) and track densities of 25 tracks per mm (640 tpi) have been reached.
