Abstract :
By using a `build-in casting¿ method, a low-transmission-loss fluoride glass fibre was obtained, whose minimum loss was 21 dB/km at 2.55 ¿m. A loss-factor analysis for the fibre clarified that the main factor was impurity absorption; Fe2+ and OH were especially dominant.
