Abstract :
Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in low-loss single-mode silica fibre is observed at 1.32 ¿m using a continuous-wave single-frequency Nd:YAG laser. The threshold for SBS is 5 mW and the transmitted power reaches a saturated maximum for launch powers exceeding about 10 mW. A conversion efficiency of 65% is observed. The Stokes frequency shift is 12.7±0.2 GHz.
