  • Abstract
    By combining the idea of equivalent-step-index profiles (ESI) with well known approximations by Stewart and by Rudolph-Neumann, and using simplified expressions for Bessel and Hankel functions, field calculations for monomode optical waveguides become simple enough to be carried out on any small desk-top computer. A Basic program is supplied.
