Abstract :
The problem of guided mode propagation in inhomogeneous dielectric waveguides is solved by a Cheby¿shev-like economised power-series approach. The formulation involved is shown to be quite simple. Numerical examples using a `Pöschl-Teller¿ medium demonstrate the accuracy of this approach.
