Abstract
High voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission controllers may not be optimized for different operating conditions because they exhibit a fixed gain structure. A feasible alternative proposed to overcome this limitation is the use of an adaptive regulator structure. This paper describes the development of a self-tuning current regulator applied to the rectifier station of an AC/DC system. The new scheme was physically implemented on an analogue AC/DC simulator and the obtained results have shown the superior dynamic performance of the adaptive regulator when compared to the one obtained with the traditional fixed gain controller
