            Abstract : 
It is proved that the generic dimension of the controllable subspace remains unchanged even if the free parameters in a linear system are allowed to vary with time. More precisely, it is proved that the generic rank of the controllability matrix equals the generic rank of a controllability matrix for a discrete, time-varying system. As a by-product, a new proof of S. Hosoe´s (1980) characterization of the generic dimension of the controllable subspace is obtained
